What is a Liquid Rhinoplasty?

A Liquid Rhinoplasty (or non-surgical nose job) is an advanced aesthetic procedure that uses dermal fillers to alter the shape of the nose without surgery. By strategically placing small amounts of hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, a practitioner can smooth out bumps, lift the nasal tip, and create the illusion of a straighter, more refined nose.

How it Works

It may seem counterintuitive that adding volume (filler) can make a nose look smaller or straighter. However, by filling the depressions above and below a dorsal hump (the bump on the bridge of the nose), the practitioner creates a straight line. This straight line reflects light more evenly, tricking the eye into perceiving the nose as smaller and more symmetrical.

Filler can also be placed at the base of the nose to lift a drooping tip, or along the bridge to build up a flat nose (a common request in Asian and Afro-Caribbean rhinoplasty).

What a Liquid Rhinoplasty Can and Cannot Do

  • It CAN: Smooth a dorsal hump, lift the nasal tip, build a bridge, correct mild asymmetry, and refine the nose shape.
  • It CANNOT: Physically shrink the nose, narrow wide nostrils, correct a severely deviated septum, or fix breathing issues.

What to Expect During Treatment

The procedure is remarkably quick, often taking only 15 to 20 minutes. A firm, structural hyaluronic acid filler (such as Juvederm Volux or Restylane Lyft) is used because it needs to hold its shape against the tight skin of the nose. The injections are typically placed deep, right on top of the bone and cartilage.

Results are immediate. There is no cast, no general anaesthesia, and minimal downtime. You may experience slight redness or minor bruising, but most patients return to normal activities right away. You will be advised to avoid wearing heavy glasses or sunglasses for 1 to 2 weeks while the filler integrates.

Longevity

Because the nose moves very little compared to areas like the lips or cheeks, filler lasts a long time here. Most patients enjoy results for 12 to 18 months, and sometimes up to 2 years, before needing a touch-up.

Clinical Note: The nose is arguably the highest-risk area on the face for dermal fillers. The blood supply to the nose is complex and connects directly to the blood supply of the eyes. Accidental injection into an artery (vascular occlusion) in the nose can lead to tissue necrosis (skin death) or, in rare cases, permanent blindness. This procedure must only be performed by highly experienced medical professionals (Doctors, Dentists, or Prescribing Nurses) who are equipped to handle emergency complications.
